The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

IPAS works globally to improve women's lives through a focus on reproductive health. Their work is based on the principle that every woman has a right to the highest attainable standard of health, to safe reproductive choices, and to high quality health care.
Communication Strategies

4 initiatives: 1) Supporting the right of each woman to control her own sexuality, fertility, health, and well-being; 2) Increasing women's access to high-quality elective abortion services; 3) Increasing women's access to high-quality post-abortion (PAC) care; and, 4) Improving medical practice by putting appropriate reproductive health technologies in the hands of skilled providers.

Key Points

IPAS concentrates on preventing unsafe abortion, improving treatment of its complications, and reducing its consequences. They also provide information and guidance to international, national and community decision makers and opinion leaders, informing health policy debates by sharing lessons learned. They advise and assist groups in identifying how they can bring their capacities and resources to improve women's reproductive health. They manufacture, market and distribute reproductive health technologies, along with technical information and training assistance.
